It seems that now steroid cheaters cannot go undetected in doping tests. According to a new invention, Indiana and China researchers developed a faster and improved method to detect the presence of illegal anabolic steroids in urine samples.
This new method was described in Analytical Chemistry and only took few seconds in detecting. According to researchers, the method even didn’t involve time-consuming factor in sample preparation. The research was made prior to increased use of banned substances by professional athletes for muscle gain and competitive advantage. The study notes that the use of illegal drugs is generally made in track and field, baseball, football and cycling sports.
From Science Daily:
Amid growing concerns about sports “doping,” researchers in Indiana and China report development of a faster and more efficient method for detecting the presence of illegal anabolic steroids in urine.
Their new method, which takes only a few seconds and involves no time-consuming sample preparation, will be described in Analytical Chemistry.
The study notes that use of banned substances by professional athletes to build muscle and gain a competitive advantage is a growing problem in sports such as track and field, baseball, football and cycling. Although effective methods exist for detecting the presence of illegal steroids in urine, current methods are time-consuming and involve cumbersome preparation steps.
Although, various effective methods are used to detect the presence of illegal steroids in urine, but most of them are time-consuming and involve cumbersome preparation steps. That’s why Zheng Ouyang, R. Graham Cooks, and colleagues developed a new steroid-testing method that includes the combination of desorption electrospray ionization (DESI) and tandem mass spectrometry.
In laboratory studies, the technique was mainly used by the researchers to analyze fresh urine samples for the presence of tiny amounts of seven different anabolic steroids. This new method would accurately identify the steroids in just few seconds using only a single drop of urine.
